January 30th 1969 is a huge date in Beatle history.
That is the date that the band played their final public performance.
It happened on the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters at 3 Savile Row in London.
The show only lasted 42 minutes.
Luckily they were filming at the time.
More of The Beatles filmed around that time will also be part of the the Peter Jackson film “The Beatles: Get Back” due out some time in 2021.
It ended when the Metropolitan Police asked them to reduce the volume.
The band of course, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison were joined by keyboardist Billy Preston.
They performed 9 takes of only 5 songs.
The show ended with a third take of “Get Back”, with John Lennon’s very famous line wrapping it up, “I’d like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we’ve passed the audition.”
