George was nominated by his coworker Amy Di Leo who says, “George Martinez lives a life on the line – as a working foreman for PSEG Long Island ensuring his community has safe and reliable electricity, and also when he’s fighting fires as chief of the Uniondale Fire Department.
Fifteen years, ago George joined the Uniondale Fire Department and three years later he entered PSEG Long Island’s Lineworker Academy.
George acknowledges that he chose a career path and volunteer job that both require years of extensive training, physical and mental acuity and passion, and though he enjoys both because of the work itself and the people he works with, he recognizes that both positions also involve very serious tasks.
As a lineworker, George leads a line crew in western Nassau. Any day can be, and often is, challenging – working in unforgiving winter weather like freezing cold, rain and ice or stifling humidity in the summer. Encountering older equipment on the system may present an additional challenge and could turn a seemingly simpler job into a bigger one. However, George is committed to the work and knows when his crew leaves a jobsite, the electricity will be flowing safely.
George is grateful for the opportunity to work with an excellent team and serve his community both on and off the clock – he is a true do-gooder and a hero.
Thank you for recognizing my coworker George Martinez and his brothers and sisters on the job, who work to keep their neighbors safe every day”
George, as a small way of saying thanks for all you do for the community, you will receive a $100 gift card from Moe’s Southwest Grill.
