Sameer Malik was hired by the Suffolk County Police Department on September 9th, 2019. Previously, he had volunteered with the Brentwood Legion Ambulance and had worked as a suicide prevention/crisis counselor. On August 8th 2024, he was the first officer on scene to a 911 call made for a woman in labor. The mother’s husband came to the door stating his wife was in active labor. Sameer, as learned in his training asked how far apart the contractions were, what number child this was for them, and other questions to further assist the couple. Before you knew it, Sameer was able to see the baby’s head crowning and notified dispatch that the baby was on its way and to request for help delivering it. Sameer continuously encouraged the mother, constantly telling her she was going a great job and insisting that she keeps going. A lot of his assistance came from memories of his wide was in L&D three years prior. The delivery went smoothly, without incident. The father did a great job catching the baby and assisted in cleaning and wrapping her. With the assistance from Coram Rescue, he cut the umbilical cord for his new born baby girl. The healthy mother and daughter were both transported to St. Charles Hospital by Coram Rescue.
Sameer, as a small way of saying thanks for all you do for the community, you will receive a $100 gift card from Moe’s Southwest Grill.
