Vincent Timmons | Honoree for July 12th, 2024

Vincent Timmons was nominated by his sister, Jeanne Timmons, who said I have been wanting to write to someone to share the story of my brother’s passion for being a first responder and carrying on a family legacy of serving and protecting.

My brother, Vincent Timmons is a retired FDNY firefighter. He doesn’t talk about his service to FDNY, his experience as a firefighter and/or how 911 changed his life. Vincent prefers to see the work he does now - his music, writing books about first responders, talking about the importance of emotional supports for first responders - as carrying on the legacy of serving and protecting we learned from our father.

In 1957 my father, FDNY Lieutenant Eugene P. Timmons wrote a poem about a firefighter who saved a child from a burning building on Christmas Eve. Eight years later on November 4, 1965 who would believe dad would be there to rescue a small boy from a fire in an apartment building in Brooklyn. It was an unbelievable, untold story. Until my brother, Vincent decided to turn the poem into a children’s book and have it published, A Firefighter’s Christmas.

Recently, Vincent wrote a second book titled, ‘Firefighter Charlie’. He wants to use the book to help children learn good safety habits and be aware of all types of first responders who are ready when and if anyone needs help. A book signing is scheduled for this coming Saturday, July 13th at The Paper Store in Farmingdale. Part of the proceeds of the sale of both books go to charity. I’m proud of my brother, Vincent. He has more passion and enthusiasm than most of us combined. I know it would mean a lot to him to have a big turnout on Saturday. If there’s any way you and your radio station can help get the word out, it would be greatly appreciated.”

Vincent’s book signing is scheduled for 11am on Saturday, July 13th at The Paper Store at 203 Airport Plaza in Farmingdale. $5 of each sale during the signing goes to charity, with free hats & stickers with each purchase.

Vincent, as a small way of saying thanks for all you do for the community, you will receive a $100 gift card from Moe’s Southwest Grill.
