Nancy Wilson of Heart recently announced she was working on her first solo album.
Nancy is known more as the guitar playing sister in Heart.
Her sister Ann is known more as the singer.
On this solo album Nancy plays guitar and sings every song.
According to Blabbermouth, Nancy said she chose to cover this tune from Springsteen “because of these troubled times we’re living in,”. “'The Rising' has been on my mind. I wanted to make something uplifting and aspirational for those of us who are suffering with all this sickness and loss. I hope this song can help lift our spirits.”
Wilson’s version of the song is toned down in comparison to Springsteen’s, yet, no less powerful.
Heart did a bit of acoustic work under the moniker “The Lovemongers”.
You can hear acoustic flourishes on this recording that suggest she took inspiration from that area of her musical background as well.
Why a solo album now?
Nancy’s response “There have been so many times I was asked about when I would ever put out a solo album,”. “Well, the time is now. Having been unable to tour and having spent so much time at home has made a good space for creating new music.”
