GRAND CANYON, Ariz. — A Canadian woman died Thursday while hiking on a trail in the Grand Canyon National Park.
In a news release. the National Park Service said that Melanie Goodine, 41, of Ottawa, died while hiking on the Bright Angel Trail near Three-Mile Resthouse.
According to officials, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call at about 5:50 p.m. MDT about a hiker in distress, KTVK reported. Rescue teams that reached Goodine found her unresponsive and attempted CPR, according to the television station.

Goodine was hiking up to the rim of the Grand Canyon after hiking to the Colorado River earlier in the day, according to the National Park Service. Depending on the route Goodine took, she could have hiked up to 20 miles round-trip.
Shade temperatures where Goodine was hiking reached a high of about 95 to 104 degrees on Thursday, Joelle Baird, a spokesperson with Grand Canyon National Park, told CNN.
“The NPS does not recommend hiking from the rim to the river and back in one day,” the National Park Service said in its statement.
According to the news release, the National Park Service is conducting an investigation, coordinating with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
No additional information has been released.
