The recall was announced Tuesday and covers GMC Terrain SUVs from the 2010-2017 model years. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vehicles built after the 2017 model year have a different headlamp design and are not covered by this recall.

General Motors had asked to avoid the recall, but U.S. safety regulators denied the request, The Associated Press reported. The issue is that reflections caused by the headlights’ housings can create areas with too much light, reducing visibility for other drivers.

In a letter to General Motors dealers, the company said that because there is no repair currently approved, any vehicles that are in dealers’ possession must be held and not sold, traded or given to customers.

GM told The Associated Press that it expects to notify impacted owners by letter starting April 23.
