Recall alert: LG recalls 500K electric ranges due to fire hazard

LG Electronics is recalling approximately 500,000 electric ranges due to the front knobs accidentally being activated by people or pets.

According to a news release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the front-mounted knobs on the recalled ranges are susceptible to being turned on by contact. The recalled items include slide-in and freestanding ranges.

The agency said there have been 86 reports of unintentional activation of the front knobs. There have been at least eight injuries reported and three pets have died.

LG Electronics Inc., of South Korea manufactures the ranges. According to the CPSC, the ranges were sold at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s and other appliance stores nationwide and online at LG.com. Depending upon the model, the items were sold from 2015 through January 2025 and ranged in price between $1,400 and $2,650.

The model and serial numbers for the recalled products can be found inside the oven door or storage drawer, which is located at the bottom of the oven. Serial and model numbers affected by the recall can be found on the CPSC website.

According to the CPSC, consumers should contact LG for a free warning label and placement instructions. 

“The label reminds consumers to use the lock out/control lock function on the range control panel to disable activation of the heating elements when the range is not in use,” the CPSC said.
