West Virginia woman accused of tossing drugs from car during police pursuit

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A West Virginia woman is accused of throwing drugs out of her vehicle while being pursued by state troopers, authorities said.

Whittney Dawn Yerace, 35, of Fairmont, was charged with fleeing with reckless indifference, WBOY-TV reported.

According to a criminal complaint, Yerace was observed driving a green Chevrolet Trailblazer in Fairmont on March 9. Troopers said she was traveling 45 mph in a 30 mph zone,

Troopers recognized the vehicle’s driver as Yerace, who is a “known drug offender,” according to the agency. When troopers turned on their emergency lights, Yerace sped up, WBOY reported.

At that point, troopers noted the vehicle’s driver was Whittney Yerace, 35, of Fairmont, who was “a known drug offender,” and when troopers turned around, Yerace sped up, troopers said.

Troopers attempted to perform a traffic stop, but she continued driving, running through several red lights and three stop signs, according to the complaint.

After failing to navigate a roundabout, Yerace lost control of her vehicle and crashed through a chain-link fence, WBOY reported.

According to the complaint, Yerace told troopers she fled because she was scared, and that “she also threw drugs out of the window at some point during the pursuit.”

Yerace was being held in the North Central Regional Jail, with bail set at $85,012, WBOY reported.
